Skilled carpenter with strong finish chops to lead the carpentry scope on ICR's residential renovation projects across Pittsburgh. Trim, cabinets, doors, built-ins, stairs — and the occasional rough framing — on kitchens, baths, additions, and whole-home jobs.
The role
Most ICR projects involve at least one moment where the plan doesn't match what we find behind the drywall. We're hiring a Lead Carpenter who treats that as the interesting part of the day — not as an excuse to stop. The bulk of your work will be finish carpentry: trim, casing, crown, cabinet install, built-ins, stairs, and door hanging. You'll also pick up framing, drywall, and whatever else the build calls for, often in 1960s South Hills splits where every wall has a story. You'll partner daily with a Renovation Specialist, share what you know, and report to a Project Manager who owns the timeline, budget, and client relationship — leaving you free to focus on the craft and the team.
What you’ll do
- Be at our Castle Shannon office at 7:45 AM ready to roll out to the job site. On time, every day.
- Own the carpentry scope on assigned projects — layout, framing, cabinetry, finish trim, doors, stairs, built-ins. From rough to ready-for-paint.
- Pair with a Renovation Specialist day to day — share what you know, teach by example, hold a clean standard.
- Help grow the team. Develop the Renovation Specialists you work with — trim coping, scribing, cabinet alignment, the small things that make finish work great. ICR promotes from within, and you're a key part of how that path works.
- Coordinate with subs (electrical, plumbing, tile) on carpentry-adjacent prep and finish — pocket doors, cabinet rough-ins, finish caulking, trim around stone and tile.
- Track your hours in Hubstaff and update task progress in Monday.com daily — photos, status changes, notes.
- Report progress and flag issues to your Project Manager — material shortages, scope questions, anything that could affect the schedule or quality.
- Maintain safety on site: PPE, fall protection, jobsite cleanliness, awareness of what's happening around you.
- Interact professionally with homeowners on site — they're trusting us in their house every day.
What we’re looking for
- 5+ years of residential carpentry experience, with strong finish chops — trim, cabinets, doors, stairs, built-ins. We want to hire the person friends ask 'how would you do this?'
- Fearless — you take on unfamiliar problems and find a path. You don't say 'that's not in my scope.'
- Curious — you taught yourself something new in the last year, and you'll teach yourself something new on the next project.
- Disciplined — fearless doesn't mean reckless. You stop and ask when the answer matters.
- Generous with knowledge — you share techniques without ego. You believe a team that learns together does better work.
- Reliable — you show up on time, every day.
- Coachable — you take feedback without ego, and you give it the same way.
- Honest — with the team, with clients, with yourself.
- OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 strongly preferred.
- Valid PA driver's license and reliable transportation. South Hills based or willing to commute.
- Drug-free workplace — pre-employment screening and random testing.
- DOT Medical Evaluation required if assigned to drive company vehicles (we cover the exam).
- Willingness to use Monday.com and Hubstaff daily — they're how the whole team stays in sync.
